Chatting with an Obama supporter yesterday, left me with an insatiable desire to claw my eyes out.
This was not a woman I know - I was waiting in a long line at a grocery store when she walked up behind me, wearing an OBAMA t-shirt.
Curious, I asked, "Going to vote for Obama?" I said nodding, as if I understood her plight. Her eyes glazed over and she smiled that knowing smile. "Oh yes!" she exclaimed. "I first joined Obama a few months ago," as if she joined a church. I asked, "joined Obama," with my eyebrows raised practically up to my hairline.
She explained that she "converted from Hillary to Obama," and is now a devotee. So I bit. I asked her what specifically about his policies that she loved so much. She just stared and blinked, with a soft smile. So I instead asked her what it was about him that she loved so much. This was an easier question to answer because she practically bubbled. "I love how he brings people together," she said.
"To do what?" I asked kindly and softly.
She stared and blinked again... blinked like Nancy Pelosi at the State of the Union... blink, blink, blink, blink, blink...
"Uh, well, he has such an amazing ability to bring people together to get things done," she proudly answered.
"What kinds of things?" I asked again.
"Well, when people come together everyone benefits," she said.
I nodded and smiled. What kind of beast can argue with this logic? "How will you benefit?" I asked her.
"Well, like when people come together like say, in environmentalism, with more people recycling, the world will be a better place."
Now I was staring and blinking. Rapidly. My eyes were stinging. I bit my cheek.
"So if more of us recycle our garbage, this is Obama's doing?" I replied. I am confused.
"Well, okay. When people come together and are inspired by him, we all will benefit. We all will see the good in each other, and get more done" she explained.
I said, "Wow, he sounds more like a prophet than a politician." And then I moved in for the kill. "So, getting back to his politics, which of his policies do you like?"
Again she stared, and began to pick at her cuticle. The rapid blinking started up again. But then a smile started to form at the corners of her perfectly lined mouth. "The war!" she exclaimed loudly. "He's against the war."
Hmmm.
"Yes. He says he is against the war," I said. "So what will he do?"
Blink. Blink. Blink.
"Well," she said changing tactics, "He represents Americans."
"Okay," I said, practicing a level of patience unfamiliar to me, "How does he represent Americans? What does that mean?" I deplored. I felt as if I was talking to a kindergartener.
"He gives us hope for a bright future," she answered.
I had wondered when she would bring up "hope."
"How does he give us hope?" I asked, still smiling, but clicking my tongue.
She was now getting frustrated with my questions even though I was asking them in the nicest way possible.
"Look," she said, "I am just a Obama volunteer. We aren't given details. I just like him a lot. I know he will do great things for America. He will bring about change. He will bring back hope. He has plans. That's all I know," she finished breathlessly, clearly her way of saying that this discussion was over.
I thanked her for helping me understand Obama better, as if she had enlightened me. She smiled and rapidly blinked again. It was obvious she wished I would go away. But I was ahead of her in the line. Finally it was my turn - the clerk began scanning my groceries.
My blinking friend grabbed a People Magazine and stared at the pictures. I had just one more question. Turning toward her, and looking at the page she had opened in the People Magazine I said, "Well, at least you are in good company with Oprah - she loves Obama."
This was like talking about the Dali Lama to a Hollywood star. "Oh I know," she said with conviction. "And who doesn't listen to Oprah?" she added.
"Yup." I smiled. I bit my cheek again. And started blinking rapidly.

The messianic mission attached to him is particularly disturbing especially when his hard-Left inner ruthlessness is exposed.
This is one of the funniest things I have ever read! But what makes it so funny is how common this experience is to those of us who dare to question and Obama supporter.
Great piece!
ummmmmmmmmm
ya'lls better get used to it..
OBAMA's going to be the MAN very soon!!
unless of course....the hillary machine gets:
A) the VOTE allowed again for Mich and FL
B) The Hillary machine gets Obama caught up in scandal
No matter how you play this out...we are ALL part of this history in the making.
Why?? Rich white woman running......articulate Black Man running.
Closer we get to either of them BEING the Demo Candidate...the more the RACE card WILL become a factor.
hillary vs mccshame....what a choce of two evils.
Both suck.....lean towards hillary. Mainly, because mccshame will represent BUSH/REPUBLICANs and that will have a negative impact.
mccshame vs obama......white man vs black man.
lean toward obama....SOLEY because he's :
A) articulate;
B) different;
C) black
Pick ur poison.
COnservative Republicans need to rally together alright...but NOT as the PARTY proposes...we need to rally together to FIND a candidate worthy of Representing US.
Not someone, who just wears an R by his name, and EXPECTS our support.

I guess I’m not following why McCain is so bad. I realize that as conservative, he isn’t our ideal candidate, but he is a far better choice than Clinton or Obama.
So, Leo, why exactly is he so bad, and how is Clinton better?
Before you answer, just one thing, McCain is by far no “McShame”. He is a war hero who deserves our respect regardless of our differences with his politics. Show some respect.
Sean
Leo,
I will not vote for McCain. Ever. Which I repeatedly tell the RNC when they call asking for more money. He is not a conservative -- basically, I consider him a (moderately) pro-life Democrat.
1. He has a consistent pattern of shocking verbal abuse, including screaming profanities, against Senate Republican colleagues who oppose his bills in any way.
2. He has exercised scandalously poor judgment by intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr. in the Savings and Loan Crisis of the 1980s.
3. He has worked against the principles of the Republican Party, promoting greatly expanding federal regulatory authority in order to combat global warming in ways that would greatly burden the American economy, contrary to free market forces.
4. He has fought the Republican Party to create the Patient’s Bill of Rights, which allowed the government to impose a set of burdensome mandates on insurance coverage.
5. He has undermined the principles of a free market economy by voting for an amendment that would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to implement price controls on prescription drugs under Medicare.
6. He has worked against the Republican Party to make a mockery of the rule of law, promoting amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants.
7. He has voted to subvert American Sovereignty by granting consulting rights to Mexico concerning the erection of a southern border fence.
8. He has undermined the Constitution and opposed the Constitutional duties of the Vice President to break a tie on judicial nominations.
9. He has worked against Conservative principles, undermining the First Amendment by abridging the free speech of citizens partaking in the political process.
10. He has consistently led efforts undermining Second Amendment rights by promoting bills which regulate all sales at gun shows; which force gun-owners to purchase trigger locks making their firearms useless for self-defense; which restrict the legitimate transfer of firearms over the internet; and which extend the restrictions of the Brady bill to pawn shops and gun repair shops.
11. He has voted to use taxpayer funds to harvest stem cells from human embryos.
12. He has refused to take immediate and direct action to protect the life of the unborn; he opposes the repeal of Roe v. Wade; and he opposes a constitutional amendment to protect all human life.
13. He sponsored and voted for a 282% tax increase on cigarettes that would have unconstitutionally violated the First Amendment and increased the size of the federal bureaucracy exponentially by giving the FDA unrestricted control over nicotine.
14. He supports raising Social Security taxes.
15. He has broken with the Republican Party in strongly opposing President Bush's tax cuts in 2001 and 2003. He also joined leading liberal senators in offering and voting for amendments designed to undermine the tax cuts.
This election has my hair on fire! It just kills me that I have no one that I can vote for in good conscience!!!

Oops. I meant that to Sean, not Leo. :-)
Heather,
That’s a pretty good list you got going there. But you really didn’t answer my question though. How is voting for Clinton or Obama going to make things better? Or for that matter, how is sitting out the election going to help?
Sean
In my first comment I did not mean to imply that McCain is a conservative. I worded that poorly. What I meant is: as a moderate to liberal republican, McCain is still a far better choice than Clinton or Obama. Thats what I get for writing fast.
Sorry.
Sean
Oh, don't get me wrong, I would never cross over and vote for Clinton or Obama. I don't plan on sitting out the election entirely -- I will still vote in the local and statewide races. I don't know what it would help -- but I know my conscience will be clear.
Based on his record and not current political pandering, how exactly would McCain be better than Clinton or Obama? What exact policies will he be able to implement that are conservative? I mean that in all sincerity.
The Senate and House are most likely to be controlled by Democrats for the next cycle. McCain is highly unlikely to veto anything they pass, again, based on his past record.
If our country is going to go through you know what for the next four years, I'd rather it wasn't a Republican getting the credit. Hopefully the Republicans in Congress will step up to oppose liberal policies proposed by a Democratic President rather than blindly approving liberal policies put forth by a Republican President.
Heather,
I think FJ said it better than I can in her 2/24/08 post:
“My point then, as it still is, is that after the primary is over, once in the general election, we must vote for the BEST available candidate in the race. And that usually means compromise.
Fellow conservative are acting like liberals when they say they will not vote in the upcoming Presidential election. If I can't have my candidate and my way, I won't vote. This is the behavior of a 4-year old, or a liberal.
We have a responsibility to vote, living in a democracy.
Voting is a privilege and don't ever forget it.
You must vote, even if you have to hold your nose. Just think about the Iraqi citizens who so proudly held up their purple fingers after voting in a Democratic election for the first time. They know it's a privilege.”
(End Quote)
I’m very disturbed with this “my way or the highway” attitude displayed by my fellow conservatives. It makes me doubt what it means to be a conservative when I see fellow conservatives act like spoiled children. It makes me wonder at the patriotism of my fellow conservatives who would rather see our country go to hell than vote for McCain. I don’t think love of country means allowing the country to go down the tubes just so you can have a clear conscience or say “I told you so”.
I hope your conscience can handle the mismanagement of the war and the military when Obama or Clinton takes office.
Sean
